"Hitting my late forties I was looking for something that would take me clean away from work both mentally and physically, and spotted an advert for Nicky’s classes in a café: ballet for adult beginners – perfect! The classes are an absolutely wonderful combination of serious training, careful shepherding of muscles and joints that are new to this form and a pervasive sense of humour. The class is cheerfully mixed in gender and age, enthusiastic and supportive, and for a combination of beginners and returnees you quickly get the great sense of an ensemble at work. I love these classes: they are an absolute antidote to routine and every week I come out feeling both stretched and strengthened. The week I finally managed a pirouette with something approaching the right form was oddly… addictive. Mind your furniture: once you start this malarkey, nothing is safe!” Abby.I.
"Already enrolled. Wild horses wouldn't stop me from these classes!. Having been taught by Nicky for almost 10 years I can whole heartedly recommend these classes. She is an excellent teacher whose classes manage to be serious (you learn good strong technique) and fun at the same time.
If you've ever thought about dancing (or taking up Pilates) then these classes are perfect. My only warning is that they are addictive!” Maxine.S.
"I had never been in a ballet class until a few years ago when I started beginner's classes with Nicky. For some reason I thought that all ballet teachers and classes were scary. Forget everything you think a ballet class is like! Nicky is incredibly encouraging and supportive, whilst giving clear, helpful advice and direction in ways to improve. This thrill of getting a little bit better as the classes go on is the most rewarding feeling. I also love the fact that although we are not professionals, we are challenged and get an extremely good workout of the brain and the body.” Emily.B.
"Nicky's contemporary creative classes are the best antidote to a day at the office. The classes are structured in a way that we gradually are encouraged to develop our creativity and understanding of movement through different group activities and games. Even if you are a shy person, or who doesn't feel you would be able to dance without feeling awkward or self-conscious, these classes are so supportive and so much fun that you gradually learn to move more freely. It's great to explore dance with other people, to see how we all interpret things slightly differently.” Emily.B.
"As someone who never went to a dance class before the age of 30, I have found Nicky's classes the ideal mix of supportive, motivating and challenging. She doesn't just demonstrate dance for you to follow, she genuinely teaches you how to dance. I've often found in the past that people who are good at physical activities forget what it's like for people without their training and fitness level and don't always make good teachers. That doesn't apply to Nicky. She is clearly an excellent dancer but she also understands the barriers we beginners have in our bodies and minds and tries to help us overcome them, slowly and surely. So, give one of her classes a go! - Helen. F a beginner dancer"
"I'm looking forward to starting the next term of Pilates with Nicky. Her precise instruction, intelligently structured class plans, and one-to-one adjustments mean I always leave the sessions feeling more integrated, balanced, and refreshed.”
"If you love to dance in a supportive, caring, fun group of people then Nicky's classes are for you. If you need to unwind after a long day at work and let your brain take a break from the tedium then Nicky's classes are for you. If you simply want to feel the joy of mastering steps you didn't think you could manage then Nicky's teaching is for you. Make time to dance. You'll love it.” Liz.I.
“If you fancy a challenge/rediscovering an old talent my friend Nicky Gibbs has started delivering adult ballet and contemporary classes at City Academy (old Earlham High). Nicky is an excellent teacher with a huge amount if experience. She is offering lessons for all levels-beginners to advanced. If you're interested contact her through her website www.nickygibbsdance.weebly.com.” Abbie.D.
“I came to Nicky’s Ballet class as a not-so-young absolute beginner. She is a brilliant and experienced teacher who encourages and inspires one. Her light humour keeps the work fun and very enjoyable, yet challenging too. I simply love her class and look forward to it each week. I also find her Pilates classes, which are aimed at dancers, are excellent preparation for her Contemporary & Ballet classes, keeping one stretched, toned and keen to improve one’s skills.” Josephine. "Nicky is an inspirational and excellent teacher and she succeeds in stretching our capabilities in a relaxed and fun way. Her classes are joyful and she picks excellent music to dance to. It is clear that she prepares each class in great detail and changes the routines regularly so it is never boring, the time just flies by!. Nicky is very good at breaking down complicated steps in a way that is easier to grasp and uses good metaphors to explain things. She is always kind and nonjudgmental and you will definitely improve your dancing skills under her tution. She involves everyone and doesn't miss a trick , somehow she has her eyes on each one of us! Another thing I really appreciate is the fact that she is very careful about warming us up at the beginning of the class and is very concerned that we should not sustain injuries. As a result, I have never had a muscle strain after her classes. I have attended Nicky's ballet classes for over 5 years, I like them so much I now do 2 ballet classes a week! More recently have started contemporary which is completely new for me but I am loving it. Our classes include all ages and sizes and newcomers are always welcome. I cannot recommend her classes enough, they truly lift me both body and soul for the entire week and in the holidays I become depressed without them !" Jane. C.
